July 11 - Edinburgh
Our tour continues with a day in Edinburgh
With a fan in the room and the windows open it was not too bad. I had my earplugs and my eye mask on. We got up at 6:00, showered and dressed. We headed over to the Caffè Nero on the Royal Mile. We watched a tour bus leave, then flagged down by one of the tour operators to let a couple of people on. A few minutes later another group came running. The guy was pretty mad. They had stopped for coffee and were late for the tour and the bus.
We wandered down to Grassmarket, then back to the room to check on the clothes. They are now drying in the dryer. We picked up what we wanted to ship back home and headed to the Mailboxes Etc. They open at 10:00. But first we walked up to the Destiny offices to check that the code we had would work while we were here and apologized for the push rather than pull door. We walked down the Royal Mile and went into the Scottish Parliament Building. Really nice. There was no session so we went into the chambers. Vikki the security guard was really nice. After that we walked up and stopped at the Royal Mile Coffee shop for lunch. They had ice cream, but Gwyn remembered Mary's Milk Bar. Along the way we stopped in St Giles and found the new marker for Queen Elizabeth, right next to the chairs we were sitting in. They also were tuning the organ.
We next headed to Mary's Milk Bar. A long queue but well worth the wait for some dark chocolate ice cream. Sat on a bench and enjoyed the afternoon. Headed back to Destiny to check on the clothes and a nap. Supper was at Berties Proper Fish and Chips. Their AC was not working, so it was a bit warm. On the way back we stopped at a bench on Princes St and enjoyed the early evening. Back to the Destiny for the night.
