July 9 - Highclere Castle
Roger and Gwyn are heading to Highclere Castle, and Andy and Michele have the day in London
After showers and breakfast, walked to the Jubilee Line at London Tower and took that to The Cumberland Hotel. Then walked to the front of the hotel where we were being picked up for our trip to Highclere Castle.
Our tour guide, Toni, was funny. He knew the father of the actor who played Branson, Allen Leech. Over the course of filming he was able to get onto the set at times. We stopped at Cogges Manor Farm where the farm that Daisy was at. Next off to St Mary's Church and Churchgate House, The Crawley house. We were there when we had our Cotswolds tour a few years ago. Then off to Highclere.
Three hours to wander, get some lunch, and see the inside. No pictures were allowed, but it was fun seeing it and remembering Downton Abbey. The bus ride back was fine. We were dropped off at Victoria Station. We wandered a bit, and then looked for supper. The Stoke House was our choice. Very yummy, but it is now showing closed. I had the filet steak with green beans and broccoli and Gwyn had the smoked chicken. Apple crumble and ice cream for dessert. Got on the Tube and back to London Bridge Station. Found an M&S there and got breakfast. Headed back to the Bermonds Locke for the evening.
