July 15 - Kilmainham Gaol
Our last day in Dublin
We got up late, and had brunch at Jay Kays Cafe. It was good. We were seated upstairs. Got back on the tram to ride to the Kilmainham Gaol. It was really good to see, and our tour guide Adam was very good. Got to see the older part of the prison that held men, women, and children together. The women and children would sometimes sleep on the floor outside of the cells. Many of the 1916 uprising prisoners were held and executed here. The movie In the Name of the Father was filmed here. There was also a museum about the people and the times attached to the jail.
When we left we dodged some rain and made our way back to the tram. Stopped at the National Museum of Ireland, Collins Barracks which had art and Irish war items on display. The museum was housed in old army barracks. We're both a bit tired so we went back to the Beckett. I decided on going to Ryleigh's Rooftop Steakhouse for my birthday. Very nice supper with Andy and Michele.
